Response to History of Geophysics Survey, 1988.

A photocopy of White's acceptance speech for the Penrose Medal, which summarizes his work during World War II and after in mineral deposits (especially antimony) and geothermal systems; and a photocopy of a letter describing his research at Yellowstone National Park after the 1995 earthquake. File also includes a curriculum vitae, publications list, and a photocopy of a U. S. G. S. circulation entitled, Brief History of U. S. G. S. Research on Thermal and Mineral Waters, which details White's studies at Steamboat Springs, Nevada. Recipients were asked to send copies of their curriculum vitae and a list of publications as part one of the survey and were then asked to discuss their entry into science in general and geophysics specifically as a career; how their scientific achievement came about and major efforts they were involved in which they did not achieve the hoped for results; changes from one discipline to another; funding sources; the role of other disciplines in their own research; their work as educators; and their involvement in geophysics related institutions.
